Things to think about when sending your thankyoutine

How are you going to send your thankyoutine?

  • handwritten letter or homemade card sent via our beloved USPS

  • text message

  • video chat
  • send a gift (optional)
  • make a donation on that person's behalf and notify them (optional)

tips for homemade Thankyoutine's day cards:

  • Write out your entire message first and spell check it, including name spelling!
  • Measure the length of the message so you can be sure the space you gave yourself to write in on the card is big enough.
  • Make a prototype first! Use a piece of scratch paper about the size and shape of your thankyoutine to sketch out your finalized message, decorations, borders and/or doodles - leaving plenty of room for embellishments in the final version.
  • Let's all say thank you to Mother Earth by using things we already own to make this card, it's a fun challenge to boost your creativity! The point isn't the quality of the card, it's the quality of the message.
  • Need inspiration? Try cutting out pictures from a magazine and collage them to decorate your card or letter. Spruce up your card with stickers, markers, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, yarn, paint, washi tape and/or photographs - whatever is quick, easy and fun.
  • Sloppy handwriting? No problem! You can always print up the message, sign it and decorate the space around it.
  • Long letter or heavy card? Maybe think about putting an extra stamp on it.
  • Be sure to date and sign your card  : )

tips for thankyoutine's day messages:

Sometimes expressing appreciation can feel weirder than it should.

There are 3 main goals here:
  • don't overthink it
  • don't try to make it perfect
  • remember to send it

The purpose of Thankyoutine's Day is to surprise someone by saying thank you for something that could've occurred recently or years ago. It could've been life changing or something small and sweet. You can reach out to family and friends that are close to you, reconnect with someone you haven't spoken to in a long time or express your gratitude to an entire group of people you don't know personally but deserve to be thanked - like your local grocery store clerks, medical teams at your doctor's office or cooks at your favorite restaurant. That can be done by addressing your thankyoutine to The Staff At ________ and send it to that specific location, even if it's closed, business owners are still going in to pick up their mail and would love receive some happy mail!

You can also celebrate Thankyoutine's Day by appreciating the person for being who they are, and letting them know how thankful you are to have them in your life and/or the impact they've had on your life, whether it be a teacher, coach, mentor or peer.

Thank you for helping to spread the joy!
